Cutler Lecture: Constitutional Disagreement and Right Answers by Professor Matthew Adler On Friday, February 12, at 1PM in Room 127 at William & Mary Law School, Professor Matthew Adler of the University of Pennsylvania Law School will present the Cutler Lecture titled "Constitutional Disagreement and Right Answers." Professor Adler's books include New Foundations of Cost-Benefit Analysis (Harvard 2006; co-authored with Eric Posner); and the forthcoming Well-Being and Equity: A Framework for Policy Analysis (Oxford 2010). He is an editor of Legal Theory, the leading journal in the area of law and philosophy. Free and all are welcome.  1:00 - 2:00 pm.  Room 127.

Thousands of detainees and prisoners escaped prisons that crumbled in the earthquake and its aftershocks. A month later, most institutions are still not able to function, and many key government personnel remain unaccounted for. What is in store for Haiti? What does the future hold for the government, courts and institutions of this small nation, which had already been struggling for many years to embed the Rule of Law?  12:15 - 1:30 pm.  Room 119.

Please join W&M Law School Dean Davison M. Douglas and The George Wythe Society of Citizen Lawyers as we host Thomas R. Frantz, B.A. '70, J.D. '73, LL. M. '81, Chief Executive Officer of Williams Mullen and recipient of the William & Mary Law School Association's 2009 Citizen-Lawyer Award. Free and all are welcome. Mr. Frantz, a 1973 graduate of William & Mary Law School, will discuss his experience as a citizen lawyer. Drawing on his tax background, Mr. Frantz maintains a corporate practice representing multi-national corporations, handling major mergers and acquisitions, and advising corporations on a variety of legal matters. He is listed in three categories in The Best Lawyers in America and has been named to Virginia Business magazine's list of "Legal Elite." He is active in numerous civic and educational organizations, serves on several boards, and has been honored on several occasions for dedication to his community. The event will be hosted by the Federalist Society. It will be a lecture by Alan Gura, Partner at Gura and Possessky, PLLC. With the Supreme Court's recent decision to hear the case of McDonald v. Human Security Law Program: Law of Art Confiscation During Military Conflict.
Panel including Dr. Allan Gerson, widely recognized as the first attorney to engineer a practical basis for suing foreign governments for acts of terrorism. Gerson initiated the civil suit against Libya on behalf of the victims of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland and was instrumental in the passage of the Anti Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act. Gerson is currently representing the Russian family who originally owned Van Gogh's painting Night Cafe, confiscated by the Bolsheviks and now in the Yale Art Museum.  6:30 pm.  Room 119.

The William & Mary Journal of Women and the Law will present their annual symposium titled "A Man's World?: Challenges and Solutions as Women Take Center Stage in the Global Theater" on February 27, 2010 at William & Mary School of Law in the McGlothlin Courtroom from 8 am to 4 pm. Professors with expertise in the fields of gender and international law will discuss the discuss and present solutions to challenges that women face in the areas of rural development, international trade, constitution - building in post-conflict countries, gender equality, and religious fundamentalism.
