ROOTS OF UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISM - Dr. Becker

Unitarian Universalism did not spring up suddenly in modern times, but has its deepest roots in the period of the first centuries of the common era. Nurtured through twenty centuries of religious debate and controversy, the faith we inherit today is rich in both abiding beliefs and continuing change. You, as a Unitarian Universalist, are part of a movement that has been less defined by specific beliefs and more by a specific position and process in the spectrum of religious options. .

    Imbolc Celebration
Join us at the church firepit (weather permitting) for a celebration of the pagan holiday Imbolc. In Celtic and northern European traditions,Imbolc is a time when the Goddess is large with her pregnancy, preparing to give birth again to the god and bring Spring back to the world. It is the time traditionally associated with the goddess Brigid. Brigid is the patron goddess of blacksmiths, poets, singers and at this time of year she offers us her fires of creativity. As such, we ask that anyone attending the ritual should come dressed in colors of fire, and wear clothing that will enable you to move about outside. Also, please bring a candle and a potluck dish to share. The ritual and subsequent eating/partying should last a couple of hours. All are welcome.

In case of inclement weather, the ritual will be held in the Sanctuary of the church. Rain or shine, we'll be there.

SABBATH - Finding Rest, Renewal, and Delight In Our Busy Lives - Dr. Becker

Wayne Muller's recent book by the same title opens us to the ancient wisdom and modern potential for creating "an oasis of sacred time within a life of unceasing labor" that "can heal our harried lives." This renewed view of Sabbath is not based on a particular day or practice, but on an attitude. Are you looking for an attitude adjustment that might make your life more abundant?

    Coffeehouse
Gan Aimn(pronounced 'gahn ammin') Williamsburg Celtic Folk group, Coyote Run will be again be hosting the monthly folk music coffeehouse. This month¹s guest band will be The Itinerant Band from Virginia Beach. Each month, an invited band, group or ensemble will be featured onstage with Coyote Run, sharing songs, trading music, jamming informally and responding to audience requests and input. The format for Gan Aimn will be a round robin, where each of these two very entertaining bands take turns playing short sets of music. The atmosphere will be casual and fun, providing audience members a close-up opportunity to interact with band members, and there should be more than enough music, laughter and good family entertainment available for all. Refreshments will be catered by Aromas Cafe and Bakeshop and will be available for purchase.

There is no admission charge, although donations and tips are encouraged and warmly accepted to help defray costs.

CHECKING OUR RELIGIOUS BAGGAGE - Dr. Becker

These days any journey entails both a serious consideration of what we will take with us and a thorough examination of our bags against transport of dangerous items. How about on our religious journeys? Have you ever considered what is packed in your religious bag? What would x-rays or hand-on examination reveal about what you are carrying . . . any "dangerous" items left over from some religious issues of the past lurking in your corner pocket?

    QUANTUM THEOLOGY

Diarmid O'Murchu's book of the same name is a departure point for an exploration of some of the religious implications of the new physics. "WHAT?" you say! Fear Not!! Rather than only being a heady theoretical treatise, this will also be a very practical application of some basic physical concepts to the way we perceive our world and live out our lives. Consider what insights from another discipline can illumine your life and faith.
